UK Packaging Awards Outstanding Achievement

At the UK Packaging Awards 2007 ceremony held on September 12th DS Smith Packaging won 6 major awards which included its Chief Executive, Bob McLellan, being named as the packaging industry’s CEO of the year.

Amongst other things, Bob McLellan was cited as “presiding over a year of strong performance by DS Smith Packaging” and “being at the forefront of the industry’s efforts in retail-ready packaging” and servicing customers’ needs.

DS Smith Speciality Packaging, Launceston won four important awards. The Cornwall based business was named Packaging Company of the Year and Environmental Company of the Year and described as standing out “for its ability to develop strong working relationships with customers and its innovative design and development culture.”

Launceston also won the Corrugated Packaging Award for a telescopic tri-tube which allows Amazon to post different-sized maps and posters, and the Supply Chain Solution Award for the Grab-Cote layer pad which has helped Premier Foods achieve big savings throughout its supply chain.

Another DS Smith speciality packaging company, Lockerbie, picked up the prestigious Retail Ready Packaging Award for its Cubestacker crate designed for Unwins which allows the safe packing of flower bulbs sold through DIY stores.

Award organisers, Packaging News, said “the winners chosen were undoubtedly superior to their rivals, but the contest was always fierce and the victors had to demonstrate all-round excellence.”

DS Smith Packaging Director, Terry Ousley, said: “The awards are a tribute to the extent of innovation throughout our Company and the way our highly skilled people are responding to customers’ requirements.”
