Group Environment Policy

DS Smith Plc is committed to reducing the impact on the environment of its operations. Concern for the environment will be a fundamental part of decision making in all aspects of the Group’s activities, including investment and allocation of resources. All Group sites will implement an environmental management system appropriate to their potential environmental impact.

DS Smith’s businesses will aim to:

1. source, design, manufacture and distribute their products in ways that contribute to lowering energy usage, carbon emissions and waste throughout the entire supply chain;

2. use waste or recycled material as their raw material, where practicable;

3. lower their carbon emissions through reducing energy usage and raising the energy efficiency of their operations;

4. use energy produced from renewable or low-carbon sources, both in-house and externally purchased, where practicable;

5. ensure, as a minimum, compliance with all applicable legal requirements, as well as meeting or exceeding other requirements to which the Group subscribes;

6. apply risk management techniques to identify and mitigate environmental risks and impacts;

7. consider key suppliers’ environmental policies and credentials as part of the process for their evaluation and selection;

8. monitor and report, internally and externally, the environmental impact of the Group’s operations; and

9. strive for continuous environmental improvement through the setting and reviewing of objectives and targets.

A Group Environment Policy was first approved by the Board of DS Smith Plc on 12 January 1993 and has been regularly reviewed and, when appropriate, updated. This updated Policy was approved by the Board on 30 May 2007.
